The ongoing struggle of teachers who were recently dismissed from their positions intensified today as a delegation met with the newly appointed West Bengal BJP president, Shamik Bhattacharya, at the party's Salt Lake office. The teachers, who have been vocal about their plight following the annulment of their appointments, felicitated Bhattacharya and presented their grievances and demands before him.
Suman Vishwas, a sacked teacher and member of the delegation, told the media, "We want to reach our voice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Shamik Bhattacharya. We want to make him aware of our situation by attending his meeting." The teachers are seeking the intervention of the central leadership to address their job losses, which stem from alleged irregularities in the recruitment process that led to a Supreme Court verdict cancelling thousands of appointments.
The meeting with Bhattacharya, who recently took over as the state BJP chief, signifies the teachers' strategic move to escalate their demands to the highest levels of the ruling party at the Centre. Their persistent protests have highlighted a major education crisis in West Bengal, with many teachers facing severe financial and emotional distress. It remains to be seen how the new state BJP leadership will address the demands of these sacked teachers and whether their plea will indeed reach the Prime Minister.
